Meer nieuws over de speciale mini-CD (of technisch gezien, een maxi-single) die Kayak in september ter gelegenheid van het 40-jarig jubileum wil uitbrengen. De titel van het ene nummer, dat Ton Scherpenzeel en Pim Koopman in 1971/72 schreven, luidt ‘Symmetry.’ Het oorspronkelijke stuk duurde live inclusief solo’s bijna een kwartier, voor de CD is dit ingekort tot ruim negen minuten.

De andere, ook bijna 9 minuten durende track is een preview (suite) van het voor 2013 geplande concept album van Kayak heet ‘Cleopatra- The Crown of Isis’. Men raadt het al, het onderwerp van Kayak’s nieuwe plannen is de legendarische en meteen ook laatste koningin van Egypte, die daar vlak voor het begin van onze jaartelling aan de macht was. De foto toont Kayak’s eigen koningin op ‘werkvakantie’ in Egypte, enkele weken geleden.

De maxi-single is vanaf 1 april (geen grap!) voor te bestellen op de Kayak webshop. Iedereen die de CD voorbestelt, ontvangt een door de band gesigneerd exemplaar.

More news about the special 40th anniversary mini-CD (or maxi-single) that Kayak intents to release in September. The title of the song that Ton Scherpenzeel and Pim Koopman wrote in 1971/72 is ‘Symmetry’. The original work lasted about 15 minutes on stage, and featured several solos. For the CD it has been cut down to a little over nine minutes.

The other track, which too takes up about 9 minutes, is a preview (suite) from the concept album that is planned for 2013 and it is called ‘Cleopatra- The Crown of Isis’. Easy to guess that the subject of Kayak’s new plans is the not only legendary but also last queen of Egypt who ruled for two decades in the 1st century BC. The picture shows Kayak’s own queen, preparing for the job (while having her holidays) in Egypt, some weeks ago.

The maxi-single can be pre-ordered as from April 1st at the Kayak webshop. All pre-ordered CD’s will be autographed by the band.

Op 21 september zal bij uitgeverij Verbum het boek over 40 jaar Kayak verschijnen. Deze datum is gekozen omdat precies op die dag in 1972 op het kantoor van platenmaatschappij EMI te Haarlem werd besloten verder te gaan onder de groepsnaam ‘Kayak’.

Irene Linders zal de biografie schrijven, gezien vanuit het perspectief van Ton Scherpenzeel- het enige Kayak-lid dat alle jaren vanaf de oprichting tot nu heeft meegemaakt.

MAAK KANS OP EEN GRATIS BOEK: Stel via info@kayakonline of www.kayakfans.nl de vraag die je graag beantwoord zou willen zien in het boek. De meest originele vraag- dus niet weer waarom Max en Bert nu eigenlijk uit de band zijn- wordt beloond met een gratis exemplaar. De vraag moet natuurlijk wel in het boek behandeld zijn.

Overigens, alle interessante vragen die niet in de biografie voorkomen, zullen na verschijning van het boek in ieder geval via deze site beantwoord worden.

Irene Linders will write the book from Ton Scherpenzeel’s perspective, as he is the only member of Kayak who has been with the group since the beginning.

As stated earlier, the biography will only be available in Dutch. But you can still win a free copy of the book: ask a question that you would like to see answered in the book. The most original question- providing that it makes it to the book’s pages- will be rewarded.

All relevant questions that are not feautured in the biography, will be answered via this site, after the book has been published.
